Welcome to The Filipino Story Studio! We’re honored to have you visit!
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and crowdfunded media project that produces educational and cultural content to help people everywhere rediscover Filipino history, values, and identity as a unified story of heritage and hope. Everything we make is available for free because of the generous support of people like you. The Filipino Story believes in sharing what we produce with as many people and communities as possible around the world. We want our resources (including, but not limited to, all our videos, visuals, podcasts, articles, classes, audio, notes, and other content) to be used free of charge by all audiences to advance knowledge, cultural appreciation, and meaningful conversation.
While we generally permit the distribution of our content freely (subject to the specific rules in these Terms of Use), please note that you may use and distribute The Filipino Story’s content only so long as you do not generate any fee or compensation, directly or indirectly, from its use. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are intended to support that goal while protecting our work and reputation from misuse or misrepresentation. If you want to use our content, you must follow these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you violate these Terms, you may not use our content in any way, and the revocable license granted to you under these Terms will be immediately and automatically terminated.
We are a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of the State of California, United States, but we strive to serve a global audience. In these Terms, “we,” “The Filipino School,” “The Filipino Story Studio,” “TFSS,” “TFS,” “The Filipino Story,” “us,” and “our” refer to The Filipino Story Studio, while users and viewers of our content are referred to as “you.” These Terms and our Privacy Notice govern your access to and use of our products and services, including our website (www.thefilipinostory.com), social media pages, channels, and related applications across all devices and platforms (collectively, the “Services”). Use of our content within third-party platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, Shopify, and other online services is also governed by their respective terms of service and privacy policies. Please read these Terms carefully before accessing or using our Services.
Acceptance
By accessing, browsing, or using our Services or Content, you agree to be bound by these Terms and to review and be bound by our Privacy Policy, which is hereby incorporated into these Terms. If you are accessing or using the Services or Content on behalf of an organization, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms, and you hereby do so.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Services or Content. Your continued use of the Services or Content constitutes acceptance of these Terms as a binding legal agreement between you and The Filipino Story. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and The Filipino Story Studio regarding your use of the Services or Content and shall be enforced to the fullest extent permitted by law. Our failure to exercise or enforce any right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
The Filipino Story Studio provides its Services and Content free of charge as part of our nonprofit mission to advance cultural education and awareness. You understand that “but for” your acceptance of these Terms, The Filipino Story Studio would not make its Services or Content available to you without cost.

Overview
The Filipino School doing business as The Filipino Story Studio and The Filipino Story (collectively “The Filipino Story Studio”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit California corporation and crowdfunded media project dedicated to exploring Filipino history, identity, and culture through storytelling, education, and creative media. We are not affiliated with or governed by any political, religious, or ideological organization. Our goal is to create content that invites people of all backgrounds—Filipino and non-Filipino alike—to reflect on the shared experiences, values, and historical truths that shape our identity as a people.
As a nonprofit organization, The Filipino Story Studio strictly prohibits any individual or organization from profiting from the use or distribution of our Content. Any attempt to sell, monetize, or otherwise receive financial compensation—directly or indirectly—from the use of our Content violates these Terms of Use and is grounds for immediate termination of the license granted herein.
Because we are committed to cultural integrity and educational authenticity, we are particularly concerned about the misuse or misrepresentation of our work. Our Content is created with careful attention to historical accuracy, cultural nuance, and community collaboration. Altering, editing, or repurposing our Content in a manner that distorts its message, meaning, or context—including using excerpts to promote unrelated or divisive agendas—constitutes a violation of these Terms and will immediately revoke your right to use our Content. For appropriate representation and attribution, please refer to our Brand Guidelines when sharing or introducing The Filipino Story to others.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of our Services at any time, in our sole discretion and without notice or liability. This includes the addition or removal of features, updates to our Content, or the discontinuation of the Services entirely. We may also restrict or terminate your access to some or all of the Services without notice, for any reason or no reason, at our sole discretion. Accordingly, all or any part of the Services may become unavailable to you at any time and for any period, without liability to The Filipino Story Studio.
Registration
You may register with The Filipino Story Studio to access or use certain portions of our Services or Content, receive newsletters or updates, participate in community features, or make an online donation or purchase, all under these Terms. By registering with us, you represent, warrant, and agree that (a) you have obtained any necessary consent from a parent or legal guardian if you are under the age of 13; (b) if you are 13 years old or older, you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement with The Filipino Story Studio; (c) the information you provide about yourself is true, accurate, current, and complete; and (d) you will use only the login credentials issued to you to access or use any limited-access portions of the Services.
If The Filipino Story Studio has previously terminated your access to the Services for any reason, you may not access or use the Services under any circumstances.
If you register with us, you are responsible for all matters relating to your account and password (including maintaining their confidentiality) and for all use of your account by others, whether authorized or unauthorized. You agree to ensure that all users accessing the Services through your account comply with these Terms. The Filipino Story Studio is not liable for any losses or damages arising from unauthorized use of your account.
You must notify us immediately of any breach of security or unauthorized use of your account by sending an email to [email protected] with “Unauthorized Use” in the subject line. Even if you notify us, you remain responsible for any activities that occur under your account credentials, including any transactions, submissions, or communications made using your account.
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to terminate or suspend your access to the Services, or any portion thereof, at any time and without prior notice, for any reason or no reason.
Your Use of the Services or Content
Subject to and in accordance with these Terms, The Filipino Story Studio grants you a limited, revocable, non-sublicensable, non-transferable, and non-exclusive license to access and use the Services and Content solely for personal, educational, or non-commercial purposes. This license does not convey any ownership rights in the Services or Content and may be terminated at any time, for any or no reason, with or without notice, at our sole discretion. This license is personal to you, and you may not assign, transfer, or delegate any of your rights or obligations under this license or these Terms to any other person or entity; any attempt to do so is void.
When accessing or using the Services or Content, you represent and warrant that:
(a) all information you provide to us is truthful, accurate, current, and complete;
(b) you will maintain and promptly update such information as necessary to keep it accurate and complete; and
(c) your access to and use of the Services or Content does not and will not violate any applicable law, regulation, or these Terms.
Any personal information or data you provide through your use of the Services will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Notice, which forms an integral part of these Terms.
Use of Video Content
Certain videos produced by The Filipino Story Studio are available to view or download from our website (www.thefilipinostory.com) or from our channels on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or such other platforms or channels we may create in the future (collectively, “Video Content”). You are permitted to embed streams of, or provide links to, any of our Video Content on your own website or mobile application unless and until we instruct you to remove it, provided that you comply fully with these Terms and the requirements below:
This policy ensures that our Content remains freely accessible to the public and is presented in a manner consistent with our mission of cultural education and community engagement.
Restrictions on Your Use of the Services and Content
You may not use the Services or Content for any commercial, unlawful, or wrongful purpose. You agree not to use, rent, retransmit, duplicate, disclose, publish, sell, assign, lease, sublicense, market, or transfer the Services or Content, except as expressly authorized by these Terms. You further agree not to copy, reverse engineer, translate, port, modify, or create derivative works from the Services or Content. Tampering with the Services, conducting fraudulent activities, or engaging in any other illegal conduct is strictly prohibited and may result in civil or criminal liability.
Accessing the Services does not authorize you to use any Content in any manner other than as specifically permitted by these Terms. Without limiting the foregoing, unless explicitly allowed by these Terms, you may not under any circumstances:
Remove, alter, bypass, interfere with, or circumvent any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices marked on the Content, or any digital rights management, device, or other Content protection measures.
Mirror, frame, screen scrape, deep link, or access the Services or Content through any technology or means not expressly authorized by The Filipino Story Studio.
Access or use the Services via any automated system, including “robots,” “spiders,” “offline readers,” or take any action that imposes, or may impose (in our sole discretion), an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our infrastructure.
Knowingly or recklessly upload invalid data or introduce viruses, worms, Trojan horses, malware, or other harmful software to the Services, or tamper with, damage, attack, exploit, or compromise the system integrity or security of The Filipino Story Studio or any connected networks.
Bypass measures used to prevent or restrict access to or use of the Services, including hacking secured or non-public areas or circumventing geo-blocking or access controls.
Use the Services to collect any personal information (including account names and email addresses) or for commercial solicitation purposes without our prior written consent.
Attempt to reverse engineer any aspect of the Services or derive source code, create derivative works, or build a business using the Content, whether or not the resulting materials are shared free of charge.
Use the Services or Content in violation of any applicable local, state, federal, or international law or regulation, including export laws.
Use the Services or Content to exploit, harm, or attempt to exploit or harm any person in any way.
Send, knowingly receive, upload, download, use, or reuse any Content that violates these Terms.
Impersonate or attempt to impersonate The Filipino Story Studio, a staff member, another user, or any other person or entity.
Engage in conduct that restricts or inhibits anyone’s use or enjoyment of the Services or Content, or that may harm The Filipino Story Studio, our users, or expose them to liability.
The license and permissions granted under these Terms automatically terminate if you breach any provision of these Terms. Any use of the Content not expressly permitted herein may violate copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property laws and, without prior written permission from The Filipino Story Studio, is strictly prohibited.
Intellectual Property Ownership
The copyrights, trademarks, and all other intellectual property rights in the Content and any other information contained in the Services—including, without limitation, software, text, graphics, logos, button icons, images, audio clips, video clips, data compilations, and the overall design and organization of the Services (collectively, the “Intellectual Property”)—are owned or properly licensed by The Filipino Story Studio, and we expressly reserve all rights with respect to such Intellectual Property. Nothing in these Terms or your use of the Content shall transfer, convey, or grant any ownership interest in the Intellectual Property or Content to you or any third party.
Trademarks
While certain Content is made available under the license described in these Terms, no license to use any trademark, service mark, or logo of The Filipino Story Studio is granted to you. This means you may not use our name, logo, or any other TFS identifier in any way that does not qualify as referential fair use under applicable law. This restriction helps prevent confusion about the relationship between The Filipino Story Studio and users of our Content, ensuring that no one is led to believe that The Filipino Story Studio endorses or sponsors a person or organization using our Content under these Terms.
If you wish to use any of our trademarks beyond referential fair use, you must request a separate, formal written license from The Filipino Story Studio. Such licenses are granted only under special circumstances and must be signed by a duly authorized officer of The Filipino Story Studio. No other person or agent is authorized to grant rights to our marks, and any unauthorized attempt to grant such rights is invalid.
Security of Services
You are strictly prohibited from violating, attempting to violate, or circumvent the security features of the Services, including, without limitation:
Accessing data or accounts not intended for you, or logging into a server or account for which you are not authorized.
Attempting to probe, scan, test, or breach the vulnerability of any system, network, or security/authentication measures without our express written consent.
Interfering with the Services or any user’s access, including by submitting viruses, overloading, flooding, spamming, mail bombing, or crashing any portion of the Services.
Sending unsolicited email or other communications, including promotions or advertisements, or forging any header information in any message or post.
You agree not to use any device, software, routine, or mechanism (including browsers, spiders, robots, avatars, or intelligent agents) to interfere with the proper functioning of the Services, or to navigate or search the Services other than through the tools and search agents we provide or through generally available web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
Violations of system or network security may result in civil or criminal liability. The Filipino Story Studio reserves the right to investigate any suspected violations and to cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities or court orders in identifying users responsible for such actions. You agree to waive and hold harmless The Filipino Story Studio, its affiliates, licensees, and service providers from any claims arising from actions taken during or as a result of such investigations or in compliance with law enforcement requests.
Modifying, Suspending, or Terminating Use of Services
The Filipino Story Studio reserves the right, in our sole discretion, to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Services at any time, without prior notice or liability. This includes, without limitation, adding or removing features, updating or removing Content, or discontinuing any portion of the Services entirely. From time to time, we may restrict access to some or all of the Services or temporarily suspend your account or access for any reason, or for no reason, at our discretion.
Accordingly, all or any part of the Services may become unavailable to you at any time and for any period. If we suspend or discontinue any aspect of the Services or terminate your account, The Filipino Story Studio is not responsible for providing you with any Content, information, or other materials. We may also delete any preferences, data, or other information associated with your account. You agree that you have no recourse regarding any information that is deleted, lost, or becomes inaccessible, and you acknowledge that we expressly disclaim any value you may attribute to information stored on our servers.
Privacy and Communications
By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understand our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information. You may review our Privacy Policy at any time on www.thefilipinostory.com.
You consent to receive communications from The Filipino Story Studio electronically, including by email, notices posted on the Services, or other electronic means as determined by us. You agree that any requirement to provide notices, disclosures, agreements, or other communications in writing is satisfied by such electronic communication. We are not responsible for any automatic filtering, spam blocking, or other network settings that may prevent you from receiving our communications.
When you sign up for or use our Services, you may give us permission to access information collected about you by third-party platforms. For example, linking your social media accounts may allow us to access certain account information, such as your name or email address. The information we receive from such services is governed by your settings on those platforms and their privacy notices. You are responsible for reviewing and managing your own settings on any third-party service you link to our Services.
Governing Law
The Filipino Story Studio controls and operates the Services from its offices within the United States. Any claims or disputes arising from, or related to, your use of the Services or the Content are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to any conflicts of law principles. Federal laws of the United States also apply.
If you access the Services from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with any applicable local laws in your jurisdiction.
Disclaimer of Warranty
The Filipino Story Studio provides its Services and Content on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, including, without limitation, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the Content or Services. We do not guarantee that the Services or Content will be error-free, uninterrupted, or available at all times, or that any results will be achieved from your use of the Services. Your use of the Services and Content is at your own risk.
The Services may contain links to third-party websites, and The Filipino Story Studio is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or opinions expressed on those websites. Inclusion of any linked site does not constitute an endorsement. You access third-party sites at your own risk.
We are not responsible for any problems, damages, or losses resulting from your use of the Services, including, without limitation, damages to property, loss of data, viruses, malware, or other technical issues. We are also not responsible for the actions of any user of the Services, whether online or offline. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability, so certain portions of this disclaimer may not apply to you.
This waiver is necessary to allow The Filipino Story Studio to provide its Services and Content freely to all users.
Limitation of Liability
The Filipino Story Studio, including its employees, directors, officers, agents, volunteers, service providers, and affiliates, shall not be liable to you or any third party for any claims, damages, or losses arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Services or Content. This includes, without limitation, special, indirect, incidental, exemplary, or consequential damages, such as loss of data, profits, goodwill, business interruption, or computer or device malfunction, regardless of the legal theory or form of action, including contract, tort, strict liability, or negligence.
The total cumulative liability of The Filipino Story Studio to you for any claims related to the Services or Content is limited to the amount, if any, that you have paid to The Filipino Story Studio in the last 12 months. This limitation is necessary to allow us to provide the Services and Content free of charge to all users.
Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability to the extent prohibited by applicable law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless The Filipino Story Studio, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, volunteers, agents, and partners from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of or related to:
This indemnification obligation applies regardless of whether the claim arises from your actions, omissions, or the actions of others using your account.
Revisions to These Terms of Use
The Filipino Story Studio reserves the right to revise, update, or modify these Terms of Use at any time, for any reason, with or without prior notice. Any such changes will supersede and replace the previous version of the Terms immediately upon posting on www.thefilipinostory.com.
By continuing to use the Services or Content after revisions are posted, you agree to be bound by the updated Terms. If any portion of these Terms is found to be unenforceable under applicable law, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect, and the unenforceable provision shall be amended to the greatest extent necessary to make it enforceable.
You are encouraged to periodically review these Terms to stay informed of any updates.
Class Action Waiver
By using the Services or Content, you agree to waive any right to participate in a class action or representative proceeding against The Filipino Story Studio arising from or related to these Terms, the Services, or the Content. Where applicable, you further agree to opt out of any class or representative proceedings that may be initiated against The Filipino Story Studio.
This waiver does not prevent you from pursuing individual claims in a court of competent jurisdiction, but you agree that any dispute must be brought solely on an individual basis, not as part of a class, consolidated, or representative action.
